How to Register for the SAT

Everything you need to know about SAT registration for 2026-2027, including step-by-step instructions, test dates, fees, and fee waiver eligibility.

Step-by-Step SAT Registration Guide

Before You Register

Before starting the registration process, gather the information you will need: a valid email address, your high school details (name, city, CEEB code), a headshot photo that meets College Board requirements (clear face, white or off-white background, taken within the last six months), and a payment method (credit card, debit card, or PayPal). International students should also have their passport details ready, as a valid passport serves as the required photo ID on test day.

Registration Steps

  1. Create or sign in to your College Board account at satsuite.collegeboard.org. If you already have an account from PSAT or AP registration, use the same login credentials.
  2. Select “Register for the SAT” from your dashboard. The system will walk you through a series of screens to collect your information.
  3. Choose your test date and test center. Select from the available dates listed below and pick a test center near you. Popular centers fill up quickly, so registering before the regular deadline gives you the best selection of locations.
  4. Upload your photo. Your photo must show a clear, front-facing view of your face. It will be printed on your admission ticket and verified by proctors on test day.
  5. Answer the student questionnaire. This optional section lets you share information with colleges and scholarship programs. Completing it can help you receive relevant opportunities.
  6. Review and pay. Double-check your test date, center selection, and personal details. Pay the registration fee to complete the process. You will receive a confirmation email with your admission ticket, which you should print or save to your phone.

After Registration

Once registered, download and install the Bluebook application on the device you plan to use on test day. Run a practice test through Bluebook to confirm your device is compatible and you are comfortable with the digital interface. Charge your device fully the night before the exam, and arrive at your test center at least 30 minutes before the start time with your admission ticket and valid photo ID.

Who Qualifies for a SAT Fee Waiver?

SAT fee waivers are available to eligible 11th and 12th grade students who demonstrate financial need. Waivers are distributed through school counselors and cover up to two SAT registrations at no cost. Students who receive fee waivers also get unlimited free score reports to colleges, application fee waivers at many institutions, and free access to CSS Profile for financial aid applications. Speak with your school counselor to determine eligibility and obtain a waiver before registering. Fee waivers cannot be applied retroactively to tests you have already paid for.
