What does section balance mean on this calculator?
It means the exact point difference between your Reading & Writing and Math scaled scores from one complete result. Equal scores have a zero-point gap. The calculator does not turn the gap into an official rating or percentile.
Should both scores come from the same test date?
Yes. Use the two section scores from one official SAT or one scored full-length practice test. Combining sections from different dates creates a superscore and answers a different question.
Does the lower section always deserve more study time?
No. It is a useful first place to inspect, but the score gap cannot reveal which skills are easiest to improve, how many hours each section needs, or whether one result was unusual. Check domain performance, missed questions, and repeated attempts before allocating study time.
What is the balanced-at-higher-score scenario?
It is simple arithmetic: the lower section is raised only enough to equal the current higher section while the higher section stays unchanged. It illustrates the point gap; it is not a target recommendation or a predicted next score.
Why compare scale position and headroom?
Both SAT sections use the same 200–800 scale, so their positions can be compared directly. Headroom is only the distance to the 800 scale maximum. More headroom does not mean those points will be easy or equally likely to gain.
Can equal section scores still hide different strengths and weaknesses?
Yes. Equal section scores can contain very different domain-level patterns. Review the Knowledge and Skills information for all four content domains in each section instead of assuming equal scores mean identical preparation needs.
Can I enter raw correct-answer counts?
No. Enter the reported 200–800 scaled section scores. Adaptive digital SAT scoring does not provide one universal conversion from raw correct-answer counts to section scores.
Does the result predict admission chances or a future SAT score?
No. It describes two section scores already earned. It does not calculate admission probability, score percentiles, score significance, study hours, or guaranteed improvement.
