Important details about score ranges, superscoring, and what the result can—and cannot—tell you.
How is the required SAT section score calculated?
Subtract the section score you already know from your target SAT total. If your Reading & Writing score is 680 and your target is 1450, the required Math score is 770 because 1450 minus 680 equals 770.
What if the calculated score is above 800?
The target cannot be reached with that known section score on one test because an SAT section score cannot exceed 800. The result shows the highest possible total and the remaining shortfall.
What if the calculated score is below 200?
Every valid score in the other section reaches the target because SAT section scores begin at 200. The calculator uses 200 and shows how far the lowest possible total is above your target.
Can I use scores from different test dates?
This calculator treats the result as a single-test total. If a college accepts superscores and you want to combine section scores from different dates, use the SAT Superscore Calculator and confirm that college’s current policy.
Why are scores entered in 10-point increments?
SAT section and total scores are reported in 10-point intervals. Enter the scaled score exactly as it appears on a score report or scored full-length practice test.
Does the required score predict what I will earn?
No. It is transparent score arithmetic, not a score prediction. Use practice-test evidence and domain-level performance to judge how realistic a section target is for you.
Can this convert correct-answer counts into a section score?
No. Digital SAT scoring does not use one universal raw-to-scaled conversion. This calculator starts with already-scaled SAT section scores.
Does reaching the calculated score guarantee college admission?
No. Testing policies and admission decisions vary by institution, and an SAT score is only one part of an application. Check current information directly with each college.
